Jackie Earle Haley a no for Sinestro, Mark Strong a yes? (and more)

In an article from MTV, Green Lantern director Martin Campbell dispelled any rumors about Haley’s involvement, but added a name that was previously unmentioned as far as I know.  In Campbell’s words:

In fact, we’re in negotiations with Mark Strong to play Sinestro.  He’s not only a wonderful actor, but he looks like Sinestro.  If you look up old pictures of Sinestro, he’s very like him.  The Jackie Earle Haley thing, somebody told me about it this morning; I had never heard it before in my life.

Frankly, I like Mark Strong for Sinestro a lot better.  Haley seems to be the go to guy for creepy looking dudes in franchise movies, having been cast as Rorschach and Freddy Krueger, and another one seems like a bad omen. Plus  Sinestro’s not really creepy as much as he’s (as the name replies) sinister, nefarious, and totally BA.

Oh but Campbell didn’t stop there.  He felt like it would be a good opportunity to make it even more difficult for me to wait by mentioning some other characters he plans on including:

Well, Kilowog will be.  Tomar-Re is in it.  Sinestro is in it.  Abin Sur is in it.  All the origin people.  Carol [Ferris], of course, who will be played by Blake Lively.  All the main characters are there, and it’s a complex story.  The origin story of Green Lantern is complex, probably one of the most complex, which makes it a challenge to get it right.

Hopefully they’ll go with Strong and cast everyone else really fast so that this movie can be made and I can see it.  Martin Campbell, I hope you’re reading this.  Hurry up.
