Bryan Singer confirms his return to the X-MEN franchise

Though an odd choice for announcement forums, Bryan Singer announced in an interview at the premier of AVATAR that he will indeed be returning to the world of the mutants:

I just yesterday signed a deal to do an X-Men: First Class origins picture, which is kind of cool.  I’m very excited.

Singer recently dropped a few hints that he was eager to revisit the franchise, but this is the first we have heard regarding the likelihood. No word yet on if Singer’s First Class will adhere to continuity created by Singer on the first two films, or if it will follow the comic of the same title created by Jeff Parker and Roger Cruz.  The comic follows Xavier’s (and Stan Lee’s) first class of mutants (duh) consisting of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Iceman, Angel, and Beast.
