DIY shotgun revolver

Apparently the big thing among street gangs in Taiwan are these cute little homemade shotgun revolvers.  Though strangely sporting a “Made in the USA” mark, these puppies are becoming hot on the streets of Taiwan.  Though a revolver that shoots shotgun shells isn’t all that new (Taurus Judge, Hellboy’s Samaritan), what is new is the fact that these bad boys can shoot 12-gauge rounds.  Though obviously these weapons possess some serious safety issues, I’d like to own two, having one gold-plated.  That’s just me.

  1. even that isn’t particularly new. an outfit caled tromix converts a saiga 12 ga ak-47 mod to a 8″ barrel, fold up the stock and you’ve got a MUCH more effective semiauto pistol. More importantly, the tromix-saiga is actually designed to take a second magazine. the revolver here is just a special-case zip gun

  2. Was that a golden eye reference i spotted there?

  3. Though I marvel at the construction and originality of this weapon, I cannot really see the need for one as a personal defense weapon. Shotguns are notorious for being short-range, I can only imagine a pistol increases this factor greatly. And though it is likely you will have a better chance of hitting your target by means of the shot spread, the barrel is so short the spread would be way too sparse to cause any real damage. The last thing I would like to mention is the recoil. My benelli duck gun has one hell of a recoil when I am shooting 3″ steel shot shells. I could not imagine the kick this little sucker has. And what about a follow-up shot? It would likely be four feet over your assailant’s head!

  4. If you were using slug rounds instead of buckshot this little monster would rip a good sized hole in someone. Accuracy would be next to none. If I had one I would load a buckshot round then slugs. You could fire the buckshot to disorient your foe then rush in for the close combat shots with the slugs. Point blank shots don’t require much accuracy.

  5. The recoil would not be that bad, I had a discussion with an expert on the Bond Arms 410 Derringer. The fact that the barrel is so short that there is not sufficient length to generate any back pressure so the recoil is not “overly” severe.
